| COMPOSITION |
Each Tablet contains Prednisolone I.P. 5 mg. |
| INDICATIONS |
In various inflammatory, allergic and autoimmune diseases including bronchial asthma, allergic dermatoses, rheumatic fever, rheumatoid arthritis, other collagen disease, malignancies etc. |
| MODE OF ACTION |
Same as corticoids, but it is 3 to 5 times more potent than cortisone or hydrocortisone and thus not caused as much sodium retention or potassium excretion. |
| ONSET OF ACTION |
2 to 4 days. |
| DURATION OF ACTION |
12 to 72 hours. |
| ADVERSE EFFECT |
Peptic ulceration, myopathy, steroid psychosis. On prolonged use, posterior sub capsular cataract, glaucoma, osteoporosis, hyperglycaemia, increased susceptibility to infections, delayed wound healing. |
| CONTRAINDICATION |
Peptic ulcer, live virus immunisation, systemic infection, hypersensitivity. |
| SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS |
Diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, cataract, osteoporosis, car- diac failure, hypertension, psychiatric illness, renal failure. In pregnancy, use only if clearly indicated. In lactation and geriatrics use with caution. |
| DRUG INTERACTIONS |
Barbiturates, oral contraceptives, oestrogens, ketoconazole, rifampicin and anticholinesterases, cyclosporine, digitalis, glycosides, isoniazid, salicylate, diuretics, theophylline, non-depolarising muscle relaxants. |
| DOSES |
Adult: Individualised doses based on severity of disease varying from.10 to 20 mg. daily, upto 60 mg. per day in severe diseases. Chi Id re n : 2 mg. per Kg. per day divided every 4 to 6 hours. As in case of other corticosteroids, the therapy should not be discontinued abruptly. |
