| COMPOSITION |
Each tablet contains Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate eqivalent to Pantoprazole 40 mg. |
| INDICATIONS |
GERD, peptic ulcer, Zollinger- Ellison syndrome, H. Pylori eradication. |
| MODE OF ACTION |
Controls gastric acid secretion by inhibiting H+ K+-ATPase at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. |
| ONSET OF ACTION |
2-4 hours. |
| DURATION OF ACTION |
About 24 hours. |
| ADVERSE EFFECT |
Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, headache and dizziness, pruritus, skin rash. |
| CONTRAINDICATION |
Hypersensitivity to Pantoprazole. |
| SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS |
Should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits to the patients justify the potential risk to the fetus. |
| DRUG INTERACTIONS |
Pantoprazole can be safely co-administered with Oral Contraceptive, Diazepam, Diclofenac, Caffeine, Metoprolol, Theophylline, Cisapride, Digoxin, Phenytoin, Nifedipine and Warfarin.
For some drugs including Iron, Ketaconazole, absorption from the G.I. tract is enhanced by the presence of gastric acid. Therefore, when Iron or Ketoconazole is co-administered with Pantoprazole reduced acidity may compromise absorption. |
| DOSES |
Adult:
1) In GERD 40 mg once daily upto 8 weeks. For those patients who have not healed after 8 weeks, an additional 8 weeks course may be considered,
2) In peptic ulcer disease 40 mg per day. In severe or resistant cases dose may be increased to 80 mg per day.
3) H Pylori infection- 40mg per day for l4 days was found to be more effective compared to 7 days treatment.
4) Dose adjustment is not required in patients with renal failure or dialysis, mild to moderate hepatic disease and for geriatric patients.
Children: Not recommended below 12 years of age. |
