| COMPOSITION |
Forte Tablet: Each tablet contains Trimethoprim I.P. 160 mg. & Sulphamethoxazole I.P. 800 mg. Tablet: Each tablet contains Trimethoprim I.P. 80 mg. & Sulphamethoxazole I.P. 400 mg.
C' Tablet: Each tablet contains Trimethoprim I.P. 20 mg. & Sulphamethoxazole I.P. 100 mg.
Paediatric Susp. : Each 5 ml. Contains Trimethoprim B.P. 40 mg. & Sulphamethoxazole B.P. 200 mg. |
| INDICATIONS |
Broad spectrum anti-bacterial; indicated in a wide variety of infections, caused by both gram-positive and gram- negative bacteria; urinary tract, g.i. tract and lower respiratory tract infections. |
| MODE OF ACTION |
The drugs exert their actions on two steps of enzymatic pathway for tetra-hydrofolic acid synthesis. Sulphamehoxozole inhibits PABA incorporation into folic acid, trimethoprim inhibits reduction of dihydrofolate to tetrahydrofolate. |

1 to 4 hours. |
| DURATION OF ACTION |
12 hours. |
| ADVERSE EFFECT |
Skin rash, exfoliative dermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis are rare, nausea, glossitis, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, hallucinations, depression, anaemia, aplastic anaemia, crystalluria, purpura, agranulocytosis. |
| CONTRAINDICATION |
Infants under two months of age, liver or renal failure, hypersensitivity, megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency. |
| SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS |
Hepatic or renal impairment, bronchial asthma, patients with history of allergies, blood dyscrasias; maintain adequate fluid intake, discontinue at first sign of rash or any sign of adverse reaction. |
| DRUG INTERACTIONS |
Cyclosporine, methotrexate, phenytoin, thiazide diuretics, warfarin, pyrimethamine, oral contraceptives. |
| DOSES |
Adult: 160 mg. TMP + 800 mg. SMZ every 12 Hrs. for 7 to 14 days. (5 days for Shigellosis). Children: 6 to 12 mg. TMP +30to 60 mg. SMZ per Kg. Per 24 Hrs. divided every 12 hours. |
