| COMPOSITION |
Each tablet contains Metformin- 500 mg. |
| INDICATIONS |
1.Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
2.Insulin-dependent diabetes as adjuvant therapy in combination with insulin.
3.Obesity and insulin resistance.
4.Hyperlipoproteinemia. |
| MODE OF ACTION |
Acts by increasing peripheral anaerobic glycolysis, interfere with absorpton of carbohydrates in gut, suppresses hepatic gluconeogenesis. They cause little or no hypoglycemia in non-diabetics. |
| ONSET OF ACTION |
Peak plasma concentrations are reached after 2h or later. |
| ADVERSE EFFECT |
Nausea, vomiting, flatulence, anorexia, lactic acidosis. |
| CONTRAINDICATION |
Renal failure, cardiovascular collapse, diabetic keto-acidosis, hepatic failure. |
| SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS |
Alcohol should not be taken as interaction occurs with metformin which could lead to increased risk of lactic acidosis. Pregnancy, lactation. |
| DOSES |
Adults: Initial dose 250 mg twice or thrice daily with meal; increase gradually at two weeks interval if required to maximum 3 gm daily. Children: Not recommended. |
