| COMPOSITION |
Each capsule contains Furazolidone IP 100 mg. & Metronidazole IP 300 mg. Each 5 ml. of suspension contains: Metronidazole benzoate IP equivalent to Metronidazole 100 mg., Furazolidone IP 33 mg. & Simethicone IP 25 mg. |
| INDICATIONS |
Mixed infections of dysentry, due to bacteria, amoeba like E. histolytica and Giardia lamblia and also food poisoning. |
| MODE OF ACTION |
Metronidazole is effective against E. Hystolytica, Giardia, Anaerobes etc.. Furazolidone is a broad-spectrum anti- bacterial. |
| ADVERSE EFFECT |
Metronidazole- nausea, epigastric discomfort, metallic test, neuropathy, skin rash, urticaria, angioedema, leucopenia, seizures on prolonged therapy. Furazolidone - nausea, vomiting, diuiness, headache. |
| CONTRAINDICATION |
Metronidazole: neurological disorders, blood dyscrasias, first trimester of pregnancy. Furazolidone: Primaquine sensitivity, Infants below one month, alcohol. |
| SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS |
Pregnancy, lactation, geriatrics, urine colour turns orange. |
| DRUG INTERACTIONS |
Furazolidone: Alcohol, anorexiants, levodopa, TCAs, hypnotics and sedatives, hypoglycaemics. Metronidazole: Alcohol- Disulfirmam like reaction. Ampicillin, Doxycycline & Cotrimoxazole- synergism with this agent. |
| DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: |
Adults: 1 capsule 3 to 4 times a day or as directed by physician. Children Upto 1 year- 2.5 ml., 1 to 5 years: 10 ml., above 5 years: 20 ml. All thrice daily or as directed by physician. |
