DETAILS

| COMPOSITION |
Chloramphenicol I.P. 0.5%, Phenyl mercuric nitrate I.P. (66) 0.002% (as preservative) in sterile distilled water. |
| INDICATIONS |
Bacterial conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer, trachoma, ocular infections. |
| MODE OF ACTION |
It acts by binding to 50s ribosome subunit and inhibits the protein synthesis of bacteria. |
| ADVERSE EFFECT |
Local irritation, super-infection, blood dyscrasias. |
| CONTRAINDICATION |
Hypersensitivity. |
| SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS |
Discontinue if allergic reaction occurs. Risk of aplastic anaemia is remote but is to be borne in mind during prolonged use. |
| DOSES |
1 to 2 drops to be instilled in the affected eye 2 to 4 times daily. In trachoma, treatment should be continued for atleast 1 to 2 months. |
