DETAILS
COMPOSITION Chloramphenicol I.P. 0.5%, Phenyl mercuric nitrate I.P. (66) 0.002% (as preservative) in sterile distilled water.
INDICATIONS Bacterial conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer, trachoma, ocular infections.
MODE OF ACTION It acts by binding to 50s ribosome subunit and inhibits the protein synthesis of bacteria.
ADVERSE EFFECT Local irritation, super-infection, blood dyscrasias.
CONTRAINDICATION Hypersensitivity.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS Discontinue if allergic reaction occurs. Risk of aplastic anaemia is remote but is to be borne in mind during prolonged use.
DOSES 1 to 2 drops to be instilled in the affected eye 2 to 4 times daily. In trachoma, treatment should be continued for atleast 1 to 2 months.
PACKING Vial of 5 ml.
